The original fairy tales, I mean the really original ones before Disney got hold of them and molded them into happy singing animals, were more like horror stories with a message. The fables were meant to teach us lessons that would help guide us into becoming the perfect human being. Obviously it hasn't worked yet so I thought I'd take a crack at it.
I started writing fairy tales to tie into my second full length novel, Stiltskin. As the story is set in a world populated by diverse versions of fairy tale characters it made sense to create new fables for a new generation with their very own lessons and horrors.
As my collection of new Fairy Tales grows I've also had the wonderful opportunity to work with a group of podcasters, friends and family members from all over the world to collaborate and record 'Fairy Tales Out Loud.' They're funny, quirky, shocking, horrific, and contain important life lessons for those willing to learn.
