A New Roller Derby Team Hits Kelowna
The Okanagan Derby Dolls are a brand new roller derby team emerging in the Valley, fresh meat now being accepted.
Kelowna, BC - July 14, 2010– The sport of Flat Track Roller Derby is still known to be a fairly new sport that’s fast becoming one of the most popular new past times of females all over North America. The sport itself has been around since the 1920s and over the last decade has developed into the phenomenon it is today. Allowing players to assume rough and raunchy names with personalities to match the sport boasts high energy fused with sexy and fierce competition…all on eight wheels.
The Okanagan already plays host to two roller derby teams; the Peach Tarts and the Raggedy Rollers. With rosters filling up and the interest in roller derby bouts increasing Nadia Carabella of Peachland decided the Valley needed another team. A little under a month ago the Okanagan Derby Dolls were born.
The team consists of a board of directors, already has fourteen people on their roster with more and more girls expressing interest every week. The Sunplex Sports Arena located downtown is their home for practices which begin on August 3rd. Coach Lime from Edmonton will be flying in to coach the new team in mid August.
The team is currently looking for ‘fresh meat’ (newbies) to fill out the rest of their roster. Any girls wanting to find more information about the Okanagan Derby Dolls can find them on Facebook or at www.okanaganderbydolls.com. You can meet Nadia and other players at an info session at the Sunplex Sports Arena at 1155 Ellis Street on Saturday July 17th at 5:00pm.
